burlesque originated in 19th century music hall and vaudeville. the following century saw its emergence as a mixture of satire with comedic acts, performing arts and adult entertainment particularly strip tease. female performers create elaborate sets with the use of colorful textured costumes, jazz or sultry music, novelty acts and dramatic lighting.
“from beneath the classic feather and lace, the next generation of nostalgia and the new perception of old glamour seeps out a hybrid. burlesque is back with a twist.”
today, the new burlesque has evolved into many forms but still keeps its roots from the past. this new generation nostalgia is spiced up with different elements including modern fashionable outfits, rock & roll glamour, dark edgy sets and pop culture appeal.
